"CHESS SETS FROM THE MARYHILL MUSEUM OF ART"
IVORY CHESS SET... STAUNTON DESIGN
*
My girlfriend and I went to the MARYHILL MUSEUM OF ART in GOLDENDALE, WASHINGTON which has an incredible RODIN ART SCULPTURE EXHIBIT, a NATIVE AMERICAN EXHIBIT as well as many other interestiang exhibits. Of course there is also the chess pieces and and complete chess sets collection.

There are about 150 different chess sets on exhibit at the MARYHILL. The collection was started by the Maryhill Museum's first director CLIFFORD DOLPH who was a chess player with a competitive interest in chess. He even played correspondence chess! To find out more about this wonderful collection you can visit the MARYHILL MUSEUM... for more information please visit their website at: MARYHILL MUSEUM WEBSITE. While in the gift shop I picked up a booklet about the chess collection which is a fine collection to my chess library. A nice, entertaining read "SCULPTURES IN MINIATURE: Chess Sets from the Maryhill Museum of Art" makes for a nice art book. You can pick this book on the cheap at the Museum gift shop for $9.95.

This is just coverage of a small portion of the entire chess collection. To do it justice, you should really go visit the MARYHILL MUSEUM yourself, as $7.00 per head is not that expensive a fee to see chess art, works by RODIN and everything else housed in that fine art museum. Make a day of it... check out the PEACOCKS and the STONEHENGE WAR MEMORIAL while you are there too!
Enjoy ~Mr_Theory.
